About the Artist
Malcolm (Mal) McMurdo, was an accomplished stained glass artisan who brought
his excellent combinations of color and texture selection to his glass
artistry. Mal worked in large window hangings, small hangings, lamps and
sun catchers.
Mal was a life member of the Calgary Rock and Lapidary Club having
served in many positions on the club executive over the years. He
achieved the Master status in the lapidary art, working in cabochons,
opals, faceting and silver. He was a judge at many local club
shows as well as Canadian shows. His keen eye and sense of detail was
invaluable to all lapidary artisans in evaluating their work.
Mal was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Calgary in 1958. He
established his own stained glass business in 1990 in his home while
working full time for New Holland Credit. After retirement he spent time
on the pursuit and creation of art in the stained glass
media.
Mal was a skilled craftsman and teacher. His work is featured in many
galleries and private collections.
